Module 1 Overview

This module introduces participants to the key concepts of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) in the legal industry. Topics include overview of RPA, evolution of RPA, RPA development methods, benefits of RPA and applications of RPA in legal industries. This course will help participants understand what is currently happening in this space and how such technology can be utilized most efficiently within the legal sector


Objectives

The objectives of this module are to:

  • Provide participants with an understanding of RPA
  • Educate participants on how to design a robot
  • Educate participants on how to develop a robot

 

Learning Outcome

On completion of this module, participants will be able to:

  1. Show knowledge and understanding of:
    • The implication and impact of RPA in legal practice
    • Problems faced by law firms when trying to apply RPA
    • The value of RPA in legal practice
  2. Demonstrate module specific skills with respect to:
    • Defining RPA in legal industries
    • Defining a legal task more clearly for RPA
    • Building appropriate development methods for task automation
  3. Show cognitive skills pertaining to:
    • Applying RPA concepts on real-world case studies
    • Utilising appropriate RPA development methods on real-world legal task
  4. Demonstrate transferable skills in:
    • Knowledge discovery in data
    • Self-management
    • Resourcefulness
    • Problem formulation and decision making

Lecturer Profile

Wee Boon is a software developer and lecturer who has delivered creative and engaging solutions across different fields like education, smart cities, social media and F&B. He is currently a full-time lecturer for Computing related subjects at SIM and has interest in Data Science and Software Development.

Prior to working at SIM, he has worked at Red Hare Studios as Head of Product Development and at A*Star Infocomm Research as a research engineer. His portfolio include projects from MediaCorp, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Department of Statistics. He holds a BSc Computing and Information System from University of London, Goldsmith and M. Eng from Nanyang Technological University.
