Curious to find out what the legal team of the Labour Movement does, or maybe have a question you’ve been meaning to ask Patrick Tay, Member of Parliament, Director of Legal Services and Assistant Secretary-General of NTUC? Join us, as NTUC hosts the upcoming “First Tuesdays” ( Yes, you read correctly. We’re holding this on Tuesday instead of the usual Thursdays, because #UnusualLabourMovement!).
We will also be holding a launch for our new programme titled "PIER Counsel Project". This programme aims to pair in-transition legal counsels, in-between jobbers, young law graduates, or those without training contracts to provide professional service for non-profit organisations. Under the guidance of SCCA mentoring members, those who take part in this programme will have a minimal paid position for short-term employment to provide in-house legal advice and services to NGOs, charities and social enterprises.
Patrick Tay is the Assistant Secretary-General of NTUC and Member of Parliament of West Coast GRC. He currently chairs the Government Parliamentary Committee for Manpower and co-chairs the Financial Sector Tripartite Committee with the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
As Director of NTUC’s Legal Services and Strategy, he represents the Labour Movement in tripartite workgroups to review/update employment and industrial relations legislation and has been pivotal in lobbying for the many changes to manpower related laws and policies in Singapore.
He is also the Executive Secretary for Banking & Financial Services Union and Singapore Manual & Mercantile Workers’ Union.
As legal adviser to NTUC-affiliated unions in Singapore, he has advised/represented numerous unions/members in complex and contentious issues, dispute resolution, conciliation and in the Industrial Arbitration Court.
