The SCCA Annual Black Tie 2018, will be hosted on 2nd Nov 2018. This year’s Annual Black Tie will be held at the prestigious Capella Singapore located in scenic Sentosa.
Every year, we choose a theme for our Annual Black Tie based on the trends that SCCA focuses on. As 2018 unfolds, SCCA has carved out a path to better direct the in-house legal industry through various initiatives, hoping to do its part by further diversifying and developing the legal industry.
As such, this year’s theme is Diversity, representing the diverse nature of the legal industry as well as the need to diversify methods. The 2018 SCCA Annual Black Tie will be distinctive as we weave the theme of Diversity into the evening’s program, palette, ambience and guests.
SCCA’s Annual Black Tie is our way of showing appreciation to our members, guests, and partners who continue to stride alongside our growing success and support us in our many endeavours.
It will be an elegant evening with a specially curated menu, wine pairings and programme, coupled with a fun edge, VIP Roast. The past few Annual Black Tie(s) have been hugely successful, and you can view the highlights here: Annual Black Tie 2016 and Annual Black Tie 2017.
We look forward to celebrating the milestones of SCCA together with you.

During his election campaign, Trump singled out China, declaring that he would impose 45% tariffs on Chinese imports, comparing its development to “rape.”
The U.S.-China trade war is heating up in a battle that may last for years to come. Last week President Trump imposed new tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese exports to the United States. The Chinese government responded with tariffs on $60 billion of U.S. goods. The economic effects of this trade war between the world’s two largest economies (the U.S. at $19 trillion and China at $12 trillion) are slowly emerging.
While many around the world are ignoring this, the recent damage is only the beginning. What will be the fallout for both US and China and the rest of the world? Will this be the beginning of deterioration of US-China relations? Is China’s strategy the war of attrition?

This interactive panel session will investigate how AI and automation are being implemented within the legal community. Participants will leave with a better understanding of the benefits AI and automation technologies can bring to legal teams, and the potential pitfalls to watch out for.
We’ll look at how others have implemented such technologies in their own organisations, and what it could mean for the future of legal services.
AI and innovation are topics on everyone’s lips at the moment, but what do they really mean when it comes to the delivery of legal services to clients? This panel will examine case studies and bring their own experience to look at how automation initiatives are changing the legal world, including eDiscovery projects and chatbots for streamlining basic legal enquiries.
In this session, we’ll ask:
Moderator:

Panelists:
Debby Lim, Partner, Shook Lin & Bok LLP

"The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has become effective roughly 4 months ago. This is a good point in time to draw first conclusions and talk about some of the key learnings businesses made after implementation of the GDPR, with an emphasis on jurisdictions outside the EU, such as Singapore or Switzerland.
The arrival of the GDPR also poses many interesting and challenging questions to companies outside the EU, e.g. adequacy of data protection levels and related cross-border data transfers. Will the world face a successive lift-up of statutory data privacy levels to EU standards? Or will the extraterritorial scope of the GDPR's application suffice for businesses to catch up with the EU level?"

The role of the legal counsel in leading their companies through corporate crisis is more critical than ever; the prevalence of cyberattacks, the increase in local and cross border regulatory enforcement, the growing influence and speed of new media, and the intricacy of third parties and supply chains, have compounded the complexities and pressure legal counsels face in a crisis.
For instance:
Join John Macpherson, Senior Partner at Control Risks, as he briefs then role-plays these hypotheticals in a workshop. Participants can expect an interactive session discussing their options and choices for each scenario, and hearing some of the actions Control Risks’ clients have taken in similar situations, the subsequent outcomes, and key lessons.
*This event is strictly for in-house counsel only.
*Shorts, t-shirts, bermudas and flip flops are not permitted in Maxwell Chambers.
