Live, Laugh & Dance

Live, Laugh & Dance

Event Overview

This activity of Live, Laugh and Dance aims to bring together in-house counsel and members of the legal community in an effort to promote the attendees’ health and overall well-being. It will be a basic class for beginners and for those that have done salsa before, a chance to refresh their basic knowledge. SCCA’s well-being chapter conveners’ wish to bring to the legal community this unique chance to build confidence, and team work in a fun environment and enhance bonding and support structures for the lawyers.

Salsa is a great activity that creates a fun environment for teamwork and bonding. The word salsa means "mixture", and like its namesake, salsa brings together people of all stripes for mutual enjoyment and pleasure. If you're looking for a fun and diverse community to be a part of, you can't go wrong with salsa.

Salsa is a great form of exercise. Salsa dancing is a unique form of exercise because it provides the heart-healthy benefits of an aerobic exercise while also allowing engagement and social activity. It also helps with weight loss (Salsa Dancing on average Burns off 420 + calories per hour).

Salsa is one of the most dynamic and important musical phenomena of the 1900's. In many Hispanic communities, it remains today the most popular style of dance music. Salsa represents a mix of Latin musical genres, but its primary component is Cuban dance music.

One of the common insecurities that many people have is that they don't know how to dance. Fortunately, taking a few salsa lessons will help get rid of that insecurity in no time! In addition to helping you be a better dancer, salsa also helps you build confidence in meeting new people and interacting with others of the opposite sex, as you'll be doing a lot of both in any given night of salsa.

There will be 2 instructors since salsa is a partner dance. Each instructor will be able to explain the detailed role of the lead or follow clearly thus allowing the lesson to progress efficiently. 2 instructors will also allow more individual attention.

Event Content

  • Introduction to salsa music
  • demonstration by instructors of basic salsa steps and technique
  • Practicing salsa steps to music/song
  • Instructors will teach partner work patterns
  • Partner work & Rotation of partners so everyone can dance together.

Dance Instructor

Suzana is the co-founder, principal instructor and choreographer at The Studio teaching Cuban Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba & Cha Cha Cha.

An experienced and natural teacher who teaches both lead and follow, she has the ability to break down and communicate the subtler points of technique and musicality to any level of student. Her classes are always relaxed and fun.  She actively engages with the group and individuals so that everyone is able to understand and progress in the class, building confidence in the students so they become better dancers.

Suzana is a natural dancer who can adapt quickly to whoever she dances with. A light and responsive follower who always brings elegance and her own brand of hot sauce to a dance. Great body movement and musicality always delivered with a smile.

Suzana's personality and her attitude with people means that The Studio is a welcoming environment. Not only the classes but also the socials, which have a reputation for being relaxed and inclusive, where newcomers immediately feel like part of the family rather than an outsider. No matter if you are a beginner or an advanced dancer, Suzana will make you feel at home at The Studio.
